Monday, 28 April 2025, Kuta, Bali, Indonesia: The Asian Surf Cooperative (ASC) and Arun Vasu are pleased to announce the launch of the 2025 Grom Patrol season, with Mangalore Surf Club hosting the first event — and making history with the first-ever Grom Patrol in India.
Grom Patrol India (Mangalore) will run from 24–28 May at Tanneribhavi Beach, a beautiful and popular destination located just 5 kilometers from Mangalore city center.
“We’re really excited to have the event at Mangalore Surf Club,” said club president Chirag Shambu. “Tanneribhavi offers an expansive stretch of beach with consistent, beginner-friendly waves—perfect for young surfers. The local grom and surfing community is growing steadily, with kids gaining confidence and passion. It’s amazing to see surfing culture taking root here. A big thanks to SFI President Arun Vasu for making this happen.”
This marks the first of two Grom Patrol events planned for India in 2025, with the second set to take place in July at Kovalam Beach near Chennai—both made possible through the dedicated support of India’s leading surfing advocate, Arun Vasu.
Vasu, the President of the Surfing Federation of India (SFI), strongly believes the future of Indian surfing lies with its youth. His vision led to the collaboration with Tipi Jabrik’s Grom Patrol program, aimed at nurturing talent from the grassroots.
“The launch of Grom Patrol India is a landmark moment in our mission to nurture young surfing talent from the grassroots,” said Vasu. “In collaboration with the Asian Surf Cooperative, this first edition introduces our groms to international standards of competition and mentorship, beginning with Mangalore and followed by Surf Turf, Kovalam in July. This is more than just a contest—it’s the start of shaping the next generation of Indian surfers.”
In another major milestone for Indian surfing, the Surfing Federation of India was recently recognized by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, paving the way for future government funding and support. Read the full story here.
The ASC has enjoyed a strong relationship with Arun Vasu since 2015, starting with the first Asian Surfing Championship (ASC) event at the Covelong Point Classic Surf and Music Festival in India.
“We’re really stoked that India is hosting not one, but two Grom Patrol events this year,” said Tipi Jabrik, founder of Grom Patrol and the ASC. “Grom Patrol was created as the first development step for our groms here in Indonesia, and we’re excited to share it with India, Thailand, and beyond to help grow the next generation of surfers all over Asia. A special thanks to Arun (Vasu) for his commitment to India’s surfing community, especially to their groms!”
Following the Mangalore event, Grom Patrol Khao Lak in Thailand is set for 30–31 May. Stay tuned for more updates!
The 2025 Grom Patrol season will culminate in a Grand Final at Kuta Beach, Bali, from 22–24 August, where the top performers from all international stops will join Indonesia’s best groms for an exciting season finale. Event winners and overall 2025 champions in each division will be crowned.
