Two major wins in one season. The Indonesian prodigy just getting started
The 2024 WSL Qualifying Series season wrapped up with the QS3,000 Phillip Island Pro, and when the final rankings dropped, Bronson Meydi was on top. The Indonesian standout locked in the #1 spot in the QS Asia rankings, punching his ticket to the 2025 Challenger Series. Earlier this year, he also took out the WSL World Junior Championship, stamping 2024 as a season to remember.
From battling through QS events to claiming a World Title, Bronson’s year has been nothing short of massive. He’s not just a surfer on the rise — he’s setting the pace for the next generation of Asian surfing. But what does it take to juggle an intense QS schedule while gunning for a Junior World Title? What were the highs and lows of his season? And what’s his mindset heading into the Challenger Series?
We caught up with Bronson to break it all down. Let’s hear what he has to say.
Q: You started the year by winning the World Junior title, and now you’ve secured the top spot in the QS Asia Rankings. How does it feel to check off these huge milestones in a single season?
A: Yeah, last year was a great year for me. Just being able to tick some things off my goals list feels amazing.
Q: Looking back at the 2024 QS Season, what was the biggest challenge you faced, and how did you overcome it?
A: My biggest challenge of 2024 was probably during the QS 5000 in Taiwan. I was doing pretty well the whole year, but I just couldn’t break through the Round of 16. Just being able to do that and going on to get my best result on the QS was a pretty good accomplishment for me.
Q: The QS journey means a lot of time on the road. Any favorite stops or memorable travel experiences from this season?
A: Yeah, you’re definitely spending a lot of time on the road, but being in Nias last year with some of the best waves I’ve ever seen for a competition makes all your time on the road worth it.
Q: Now that you’ve punched your ticket to the Challenger Series, what’s your mindset going into that next level of competition?
A: I’ll just try to focus on myself because I know it’s going to be super challenging going against some of the best up-and-coming surfers in the world. It’s gonna be tough, so I hope I can do my best surfing.
Q: If you could give advice to younger groms looking up to you, chasing the same dream, what would it be?
A: Uhm, I would say just keep doing what you’re doing because you never know where it can get you, and just keep being focused.
