9 December 2024, Kuta – Bali, Indonesia: The Asian Surf Cooperative (ASC) and the International Surfing Association (ISA) are please to announce the second annual ISA Surf Instructor Level 1 course to be held at the Tropical Beach Resort in Sekongkang, West Sumbawa, which is part of Amman Mineral’s surfing community support Blue Program, and will run from 10-14 December.
International Surfing Association (ISA) certification is recognized worldwide as having the highest international standards for safety, quality, and efficacy for surf coaches and instructors within the surf industry, so with Amman’s Blue Program and their aim of developing surfing and creating economic opportunities through surfing in the West Sumbawa area, a core requirement was that the program start with ISA training for all the surf coaches and instructors in the area.

The ISA Surf Instructor Level 1 course includes two days of classroom instruction followed by three days of surf lesson training to ensure that the instructors learn and practice their teaching techniques properly and with the proper safety protocols, all under the supervision and direction of an ISA certified Presenter. Presenting the course is Jonni Morrison-Deaker, whose 20 plus years of teaching surfing along with running the Rip Curl School of Surf in Bali makes him one of ISA’s most proficient and experienced course presenters.
Surf lessons will be offered free of charge to the local community on the final day of the practical training, with the aim of both providing students for the instructors to practice with and to offer an opportunity for more local people to be exposed to the sport of surfing.

In addition, Amman will be donating 20 surfboards and associated accessories to the West Sumbawa Surf Club, who will use this equipment to develop their surf school business capability and provide surf lessons to both local and tourists in the West Sumbawa area.
The ASC has been organizing and running surfing educational programs including ISA Surf Instructor and Judging programs since 2008 under the authority of Indonesia’s surfing federation the PSOI (Persatuan Selancar Ombad Indonesia), so has been asked by Amman to assist in executing this training program in cooperation with their Blue Program.
And what exactly is the Blue Program? The Blue Program is meant to be an economic development opportunity that is rooted in the locals and taking advantage of the natural assets that already exist on the island, specifically waves for surfing.
The program is about growing surfing in West Sumbawa and changing the future of the people so they can have a better living through surfing. To be an ISA certified instructor will give them a higher profile and give them a better understanding about how to be a proper surf instructor, as they learn about ocean safety, swimming and surfing, how to enjoy the ocean, and also learn how to take better care of their environment.
