1 November 2024, Jialeshuei – Taiwan:  After being postponed for nearly a month due to Typhoon Krathon, which touched down in Southern Taiwan on October 3rd, the day before the competition was scheduled to begin, the 2024 Pingtung Manzhou Jialeshuei International Surfing Competition was re-scheduled to 1-3 November, and is now ready to commence tomorrow morning at 6:00 am with nearly 200 contestants standing by ready to compete.

Incredibly, in a virtual repeat performance of last month, a typhoon once again threatened the event, but fortunately Typhoon Kong-Rey-24 changed course on Wednesday and moved farther up the coastline and sparing the contest area any major damage, although resulting in the event having to be reduced from 3 days to 2 days. 

“The typhoon passed by yesterday, and conditions are now looking good, so we’re going to start early tomorrow morning,” said Contest Director Chris Hsia.  “Today we have really good swell, though we expect it to drop a bit tomorrow, and then on Sunday we’ll have some windswell coming from the northeast, which is perfect for this season.  And although we had some participants drop out due to the change of dates and the recent typhoon, we have some new entries as well, so we’re all working hard to make sure everything is set up, and I think it’s going to be a great event.”

Tomorrow will see the event held at Jialeshuei Beach, with the competition being run at two locations, an A Point (Main Bank) and a B Point (Secondary Bank) in order to a ensure that the event will be able to finish by Sunday afternoon.
